Cleaning older documents from Elasticsearch

Elasticsearch is basically a search server based on lucene, which provides facilities to store data as JSON documents and scalable searching of those documents. This is a very handy solution in storing statistics on different aspects such as counters, events and later retrieving them effectively for analysis. But since Elasticsearch stores all the data reported as documents, your Elasticsearch server will run out of disk space at some point down the line, more rapidly if the statistics are generated in high frequencies.

The best solution, specially for time-based data such as logging is to clean the older documents which have no effective use from Elasticsearch storage. Elasticsearch guides recommends to create multiple indices, one per each time frame (e.g. seperate index for each month) and then delete the older indices completely. But in some use cases of Elasticsearch, this multi-indices approach makes data retrieval activities such as aggregations difficult, compared to a single index approach. Therefore this post will discuss how to clean documents older than a given date from a single index.

This cleaning process will be performed from the following 3 main steps.

Collect the list of IDs of expired documents
Perform a bulk delete of those documents
Optimize the index

1. Collect the list of IDs of expired documents

The first step is to get the list of IDs of the expired documents to be deleted. It should be noted that to use this method, the elasticsearch records should have a field that represents the time of publish. For this tutorial lets assume that field name as "publishTime" while assuming the elasticsearch index as "my_index", record type as "my_record_type" and expire time as 180 days. Well also assume that the host name of elasticsearch server as "localhost" and port as "9300". First of all well create a class and assign these values to constants.

Then well add a method that will query the documents from Elasticsearch filtered from their publishTime.

In this method we have used Scan & Scroll API to avoid issues caused when retrieving larger number of documents. We filter all the documents that have publishTimes older than 180 days and print their IDs to the system out. Also for performance concerns, we have invoked the setNoFields() method on searchResponse so that it does not contain the source fields which are unnecessary for our task.

2. Perform a bulk delete of those documents

As the second step, well modify the above method to use Bulk API, that will delete the identified documents in the previous step.

3. Optimize the index

Now we have deleted the expired documents from Elasticsearch. This will only mark those documents as deleted and will omit from queries. But to remove those documents from disk in order to free disk space, we need to run a index optimization operation after the deletion operation. For that well add the following index optimization method and call it after the deletion operation.

This will delete all the expired documents and free up the disk space. You can view the statistics about a certain index using Indices Stats API.

Clear Run History In Windows

We all use windows run prompt to launch various windows utilities like command prompt, msconfig but whenever we type a command in run prompt it gets saved in Windows as Run History as Run MRU (Most Recently Used) List.

Many of my friends gets annoyed to see recently typed commands in windows run as they do not want others to see what they had typed in run.

Today, we will tell you all the ways to clear run prompt history in Windows XP and Vista.

There two methods to clear the windows run history, the first method is via windows registry to clear windows run and second method involves a free utility MRU Blaster which lets you clear windows run history

Let�s discuss both of these methods to clear the recently typed commands in run

Method 1: (Geeky Way)

Clear Windows Run Via Registry (For XP and Vista)

1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion ExplorerRunMRU

3. You will see various registry key values in the right pane, as there are in the snapshot shown below

Double click the key MRUList and delete everything in the value data box

Your run history will be cleared, if still it does not clear the run history, the open the same registry path again and delete everything except the key named Default

Method 2: (Simple Way)

Clear Windows Run History With MRU Blaster (For XP and Vista)

Playing with registry can be dangerous specially when you don�t know much about windows registry. MRU Blaster on the other hand clear all the recently opened files list and windows run history also.

1. Download MRU Blaster from this link

2. Install MRU Blaster and Run it

3. Click the Scan button and then click the Clean Now button to clear the windows run history

It is a fantasy strategy game that is available for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. There are a variety of cheats available for "Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers" on the PlayStation 3.

"Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers" is based on the popular card game called "Magic: The Gathering." There are a series of different video games that have been released using the "Magic: The Gathering" brand name. Some of the video games differ from the card game version of "Magic: The Gathering" because they use a real-time format rather than turn-based like in the card game. "Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers" is one of the games that does use the card battle format.

In the "Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers" video game there are a total of 12 trophies that you can be awarded. To get these trophies you have to complete specific tasks throughout the game. There are seven bronze trophies, four silver trophies and one gold trophy. Up-to-date games are not just reference of entertainment, relatively these demand some expertise to play and win. The computer produced opponents fight against the players and eliminating them is a big deal. The gaming companies deliver games cheat systems to the players so that they could thrash the harmful enemies. To be awarded the "Epic Conclusion" silver trophy you have to defeat Tezzeret in the final single player campaign battle. To gain the "Master of Artifice" silver trophy you must defeat Tezzeret the Seeker and Sarkhan Vol in the cooperative campaign. The "Puzzling Master" silver trophy is given to you once you have completed all the challenges in the game.

"The Spark" bronze trophy is gained once you have won a single game, the "Spellslinger" bronze trophy is awarded when you defeat an opponent that already has the spellslinger trophy, and the "Magic: The Puzzling" bronze trophy is given to you when you complete a challenge. The "Life Preserver" bronze trophy is awarded when you increase your life total to at least 30 in single player mode, or at least 60 in Two-Headed Giant. You earn the "Duelist" bronze trophy when you have won five ranked PlayStation Network matches, the "Defender of Foriys" bronze trophy when you win a Two-Headed Giant game, and the "Devastator" bronze trophy when you inflict 20 combat damage to your opponent in a single turn during a game.

City Tickets

Recently someone on the MySociety mailing list posted a link to Mayo Nissens blog entry about an interesting project called City Tickets.

While its not immediately obvious from the post (especially given the very convincing pictures), City Tickets is Mayos final thesis project at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, rather than an actual existing system. In it he proposes augmenting existing parking ticket machines so they can also dispense so-called "city tickets": small receipt-like forms specific to the local area around the machine, to be filled in with details of repairs or suggested improvements (e.g. potholes in the road, or providing a bench to sit on). Completed tickets would be submitted to the local authority for action, and tickets would also show the "to-do list" of pending works.

The principle of City Tickets is very similar to MySocietys existing FixMyStreet website. FixMyStreet provides a simple but efficient way for people to report problems such as graffiti, fly-tipping, broken pavements and so on to their local council: problems can be pinpointed on a street-level map (making them easier for council representatives to locate), the details are forwarded to the local by the website on your behalf (removing a significant barrier to reporting problems), and lists of unresolved problems can be viewed and discussed (making it easier to follow up).

FixMyStreet is a great idea (as are all the MySociety projects) and does get results. The interesting twist with City Tickets is the possibility of extending this beyond the web, removing another potential barrier to participation (the reverse of a trend to move access to government services and information online, arguably depriving a significant proportion of the UK population without internet access). More generally, the idea of co-opting an existing technology infrastructure for social good feels like it should have potential. While using parking meters might not work everywhere, what about ATMs or payphones, for example? Or perhaps it could be a very worthwhile target application of ubiquitous computing technologies?

It seems unlikely that well see anything like City Tickets in real life any time soon, which is perhaps a shame. But one of the great things about projects like this is that they can suggest exciting possibilities we might not otherwise have imagined. And in the meantime, keep supporting FixMyStreet!

Claws Mail 3 10 Released With Auto Configuration Of Account Email Servers Other Changes

Claws Mail 3.10 was released today with important new features such as auto-configuration of account email servers based on SRV records, so for instance if you enter a Gmail account, Claws Mail will automatically determine the connection details (ports, server names, security protocols, etc.).

The new release also includes proper certificate verification, an option to avoid saving drafts for emails that are to be sent encrypted, a new Libravatar plugin which displays user avatars from libravatar.org and more.

Claws Mail is a free, open source GTK email client. Its development was started in April 2011 as the development version of Sylpheed (it was initially called Sylpheed-Claws), where new features could be tested. In 2005, Claws Mail was completely forked from Sylpheed.

The application is lightweight, fast and features POP3, APOP, IMAP, SMTP, SMTP AUTH, NNTP and LDAP support, multiple accounts support, threaded display, filtering, multiple MH folder support, Mbox import/export, external editor, message queueing and drafting, mime attachments support, SSL over POP3, SMTP, IMAP4rev1 and NNTP protocols, GnuPG support, user-defined headers, color labels and much more.

Theres also an extensive list of plugins for various extra features, like rendering emails using the WebKit library, notifications plugin, PDF viewer and much more.

Changes in Claws Mail 3.10:

Auto-configuration of account email servers, based on SRV records, is now possible. (GLib >= 2.22 is required);
Complete SSL certificate chains are now saved, and if built with Libetpan 1.4.1, the IMAP SSL connections certificate chain is made available. Both of these allow correct certificate verification instead of a bogus No certificate issuer found status;
A new Libravatar plugin was added, which displays avatars from https://www.libravatar.org/;
Added a preference to avoid automatically drafting emails that are to be sent encrypted (Configuration > Preferences > Compose > Writing);
Messages saved as Drafts are now saved as New, highlighting the Drafts folder, in order to draw the attention to unfinished mails there;
It is now possible to add a Replace signature button to the Compose window toolbar;
Quotation wrapping and undo/redo in the Compose window has been improved;
Reply to all now excludes your own address;
The Generate X-Mailer header option has been renamed Add user agent header and applies to both X-Mailer and X-Newsreader headers;
Check for new folders now only updates the folder list, not updating the contents of folders. If needed, it can be followed by Check for new messages;
The GPG keyring can now be used as the source for address auto- completion;

Install Claws Mail 3.10 in Ubuntu

The latest Claws Mail 3.10 is available in the official Claws Mail PPA for Ubuntu / Linux Mint (and derivatives - elementary OS, etc.) users. Add the PPA and install Claws Mail using the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:claws-mail/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install claws-mail

To install extra plugins, use Ubuntu Software Center (and click the "Show X technical items" link at the bottom of the search results window) or Synaptic and search for "claws mail".

If you dont like the default Claws Mail icon theme, you can change it - firstly install the Claws Mail Themes package:

sudo apt-get install claws-mail-themes

Then, from the Claws Mail menu select Configuration > Preferences and then under Display > Themes, select the theme you want to use from the drop-down, then click "Use this theme":

Arlin benar-benar menciptakan neraka di dalam pernikahannya, dia benar-benar muak.

Andai saja Arlin memiliki banyak pilihan. Andai saja Arlin tak perlu risau ketika anaknya lahir. Karena bagaimanapun anak tersebut membutuhkan status. Karena bagaimanapun Arlin tak ingin anaknya mendapat predikat �anak haram�. Tetapi, semuanya harus dibayar mahal saat ia menikahi bajingan yang tak pernah dicintainya. Namun, bagaimana jika suami Arlin menunjukkan tanda-tanda mencintainya dengan tulus? Bagaimana jika dia benar-benar ingin membahagiakan Arlin seumur hidupnya? Dan saat satu rahasia terungkap mengenai malam keparat di vila, akankah Arlin berubah pikiran? Karena bagaimanapun semua orang berhak atas kesempatan kedua bukan?

Banyak pesan yang berusaha disampaikan penulis di dalam novel ini. Yang paling penting adalah mengenai menerima nasib buruk yang menimpa kita, sekaligus memaafkan segala kesalahan orang lain dengan lapang. Walau bagaimanapun hal tersebut sungguh sulit dilakukan. Melalui tokoh Arlin, kita akan tahu bahwa banyak syarat yang perlu dilakukan seseorang yang tersakiti lahir batin untuk bisa pada akhirnya memaafkan, namun menabung kegelisahan, hal negatif, serta amarah bertubi-tubi bukanlah hal-hal baik yang mesti dilakukan individu tersakiti.

Pun mengenai pergaulan, upayakanlah memilih seorang teman yang baik-baik. Kadang tak semua teman kita menampakkan sifat aslinya, kadang mereka berlindung di balik bulu domba, kadang mereka memakai topeng,padahal wujud aslinya ganas, rakus dan terus menjunjung iri hati, memelihara dengki tumbuh subur dalam dirinya. Pada satu kesempatan bagus, mereka akan menggunakan celah untuk melancarkan aksi paling buruk untuk membalas, menghancurkan kita.

Intinya novel Cinta Akhir Pekan berusaha menyuguhkan kisah drama yang tidak biasa. Mengenai pencarian kebahagiaan ketika seseorang tengah benar-benar dalam keadaan tidak berdaya, rapuh, dan mencoba bangkit. Dan mengenai kepercayaan bahwa cinta yang tulus benar-benar ada, bahwa di dunia ini pasti ada seseorang yang rela berkorban dengan amat tulus demi melindungi, membahagiakan, serta memberi kekuatan kepada orang yang dicintainya. Karena ia tahu bahwa menciptakan seulas senyum di bibir orang yang dicintainya merupakan hal sederhana yang begitu membahagiakan, bisa membuat hatinya berbunga-bunga. Sampai orang yang dicintai bisa berkata seperti Arlin dalam novel ini, hal tersebut adalah kebahagiaan yang purna dan sejati.
