Chinese Bitcoin Exchanges Expected to Resume Withdrawals Soon

Withdrawals are expected to resume soon in China as Bitcoin exchanges are finalizing regulatory guidelines with the country�s central bank.

Exchange Requests Proof of Customers� Funds

It seems like the moratorium on cryptocurrency withdrawals from Chinese Bitcoin exchanges imposed by the People�s Bank of China (PBoC) may be coming to an end. A new round of PBoC meetings are being held this week to discuss the regulation draft details with the heads of Chinese BTC exchanges, according to local news resource cnLedger.

Now it appears that exchanges in the country are starting to ask users for detailed explanations/proof of fund sources along with their intended withdrawal destinations.

According to an (unconfirmed) email, translated from Chinese, from the Huobi exchange, users must provide account information, login information and account UID along with explanations of the sources of the funds to be withdrawn.

The exchange also requests a screenshot of a detailed transactions list between user�s bank account from which the funds were deposited. Moreover, users are requested to identify the wallet to which they want to send their coins (personal wallet or otherwise) as well as explain for what purpose the cryptocurrency (i.e. commodity) will be used.

Although no limits have been stipulated by Huobi, a previous draft by the People�s Bank of China suggests that users could also be required to verify their identity in person before initially depositing or withdrawing any sum above 50,000 CNY (roughly 6.6 BTC).

The suspension of withdrawals was initially expected to last for a month, although exchanges announced that they would extend the moratorium until regulators approve the internal compliance upgrades, which we may now be seeing.

With the implementation of these new rules, similar to KYC (Know-Your-Customer) regulations with which many foreign Bitcoin exchanges already comply with (e.g. Coinbase), exchanges in China are expected to resume withdrawals soon.

With this step, we expect #bitcoin withdraws from major exchanges become available soon.

Regulations Transformed Bitcoin in China

The latest moves by the PBoC have changed the Bitcoin landscape dramatically. The regulatory clampdown, which resulted in the drafting of new AML procedures, the end of zero-fee trading, and a temporary suspension of withdrawals, forced traders to seek alternatives elsewhere (e.g. Japan) such as P2P trading services like LocalBitcoins and BitKan, where there is less regulatory scrutiny but higher premiums.

�If users want to trade more that 5 BTC a day � they need to comply with KYC and AML guidelines,� BitKan CEO Leon Liu told Bitcoinist in a recent interview. �The maximum is 5 BTC without having to submit any personal information.�

Following the suspension of withdrawals, CNY has gone from comprising over 90% of all Bitcoin trading volume to just under 10% today.

Now, as Chinese exchanges are gearing up to resume withdrawals under strict AML and KYC guidelines, the biggest question is whether users will be willing to jump through more hoops to buy and trade cryptocurrency or whether they will continue to seek alternatives instead, such as more anonymous P2P services or even anonymizing cryptocurrencies.

Some have already started sharing their predictions saying that holders will withdraw Bitcoin to off-exchange wallets and then sell on the aforementioned P2P platforms at a 8-10% premium.

Chuck Barris Producer and Personality of Gong Show Fame Dies at 87

Chuck Barris is Gone, & a Wheel Fail

Mr. Barris wrote Palisades Park along an odd path to an eventual career in television. He was born in Philadelphia on June 3, 1929; his father, a dentist, died when he was young.

After graduating from Drexel University in his home city in 1953, he was accepted into a management training program at NBC in 1955. But, he told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2003, the department he was placed in daytime sales was eliminated, and he found himself trying, unsuccessfully, to sell the devices then known as TelePrompTers.

During the payola scandals of the 1950s, he was hired to keep a young ABC star, d**k Clark, of American Bandstand, out of trouble. (He sat around doing nothing all day but drawing on a pad of paper, Mr. Clark told The Inquirer.) By 1959 he was ABCs director of West Coast daytime programming.

But he wanted to make his own shows, and in 1965 he came up with The Dating Game, in which a bachelorette or bachelor would choose a date from among three unseen members of the opposite s*x after asking them questions.

He followed that the next year with The Newlywed Game, another question-and-answer show that put just-married couples compatibility to the test. Both shows stayed on the air into the mid-1970s and spawned assorted sequels (The All-New Dating Game and The New Newlywed Game).

Mr. Barriss next game shows were less successful, but just as it seemed he was losing his touch, he came up with the concept that would catapult him to a new level of fame: The Gong Show, which had its premiere on NBC in June 1976. The show featured a series of performers, most of them amateurs, and a panel of three celebrity judges. Mr. Barris himself was the brash, irritating host.

The performers, who were often terrible, would be allowed to go on until one of the judges couldnt stand it anymore and sounded a gong, putting an end to the spectacle. Those who werent gonged were rated by the judges on a 1-to-10 scale. In keeping with the ridiculousness of the proceedings, the prize amount they vied for was ridiculous: $516.32 on the daytime version of the show, $712.05 on the prime-time edition.

The show, which ran on NBC until 1978 and then in syndication (with revivals in later years), became a cultural sensation. Critics complained about its crassness and cruelty, but Mr. Barris, like purveyors of burlesque and circus sideshows in earlier generations, knew there was a large audience for lowbrow. At one point the daytime version was attracting 78 percent of viewers 18 to 49.

In my opinion, a good game show review is the kiss of death, mr. barris said in a Salon interview in 2001. If for some strange reason the critic liked it, the public wont. A really bad review means the show will be on for years.

The ghost of The Gong Show is evident in numerous reality-television shows of more recent vintage the early rounds of any given season of American Idol, for instance.

Mr. Barris always bristled at the King of Schlock label that was hung on him as far back as The Dating Game. In a 2003 interview with Newsweek, he noted that shows much like the ones he created were by the 21st century being received differently.

Today these shows are accepted, he said. These shows arent seen as lowering any bars.

By the end of the 1970s, thanks to The Gong Show, Mr. Barriss television production company was busy and profitable, but he was itchy to try something else. What he tried, disastrously, was The Gong Show Movie, which he directed and, with Robert Downey Sr., wrote. It was released in May 1980 and flopped.

Mr. Barris gradually withdrew from television, selling his holdings, spending most of his time in France and turning to writing. He had already written one book, You and Me, Babe (1974), a novel about a television producer whose marriage failed; it drew heavily on his own rocky marriage to Lyn Levy, a niece of the powerful CBS chief William S. Paley, in the 1950s. They were divorced in 1976.

That first book sold well, but it was the next one that would give Mr. Barris yet another burst of notoriety: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (1984), a supposed autobiography in which he claimed that while traveling in his role as a television producer in the 1960s he was also an assassin for the C.I.A.

The book got only a smattering of attention, but it caught some eyes in Hollywood, and in 2003, after many delays, a film version came out, directed by George Clooney and starring Sam Rockwell as Mr. Barris. (Charlie Kaufman wrote the screenplay, embellishing Mr. Barriss tale.)

The film brought Mr. Barris, by now in his 70s, a fresh round of publicity and endless variations on the obvious question: Was it true? Mr. Barris generally played coy, delivering elliptical answers that neither confirmed nor denied. The C.I.A. was more direct: Various spokesmen said Mr. Barris had had nothing to do with the agency.

In later years Mr. Barris continued to write books, among them the comic novels The Big Question (2007), about an outlandish game show where the stakes are literally life or death, and Who Killed Art Deco? (2009), about the murder of a wealthy young man.

In 2010 he turned to a much more serious subject with Della: A Memoir of My Daughter, telling the story of his only child from his marriage to Ms. Levy who as a girl sometimes turned up on The Gong Show. She died of a drug overdose in 1998, at 36.

Mr. Barriss second marriage, to Robin Altman, ended in divorce in 1999. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Clagett.

Which of his several careers was his favorite? In 2007, during an appearance at the Book Passage bookstore in Corte Madera, Calif., he dealt with the question.

When you go to that great game show in the sky, he asked himself, would you rather be known as an author or as a TV game show producer?

Thats the easiest question of all, he responded. I would love to be known as an author, but I dont think its written that thats the way its going to be. I think on my tombstone its just going to say, Gonged at last, and Im stuck with that.

CloudStack reset password script

The process to install the password reset script described in the Cloudstacks admin guide was not working for me on an Ubuntu template so I tried to figure what was wrong with it.

In the admin guide they say that we should place the script in /etc/init.d/ and enable it using update-rc.d but that didnt work so I tried to place this in /etc/init/cloudstack.conf

you can also link the script into the /etc/network/if-up(down) folders:

ln -s /etc/init.d/cloud-set-guest-password/etc/network/if-down/cloud-set-guest-password

And that was it, now I have an Ubuntu template with a working password reset script.

Note: Ive also modified the password script to use chpasswd insted of passwd --stdin since ubuntu does not have the --stdin option in passwd and both ubuntu and centos have chpasswd but that was/is not the problem because usermod with mkpasswd was working...

just replaced:

echo $password | passwd --stdin $user

with

Okay, I think this one is pretty good! As the first major clip show since my last major clip show, it includes bits of the last three Match Highlight vids, but is mostly new footage. I think it works! Ive wanted to use this song for a long-ass time, and Ive used so much old music lately I wanted to use a song from like, after 2010.

It is, naturally, mostly Tracer work - got a lotta nice doubles and contributed to a lotta team wipes! But we begin with Mercy, being extra-defensive on Anubis defense.

0:00 - 0:27 : Ive learned not to be very scared of Sombras. I cant have her hacking my Bastion, though, so shes gotta be dealt with.

0:27 - 1:00 : Hahahah Anas not healing you, Rein! Shes trying to support the ulting Roadhog on the other side of the payload!

Oh hi, Ana. Your Reins gone. Care to dance?

Worth noting: an Ana who can land her sleep darts is actually pretty darned dangerous. Took me way too long to kill her.

1:00 - 1:09 : Soldier and Zen are both very dangerous to me. Soldier can give me a little burst from his rifle and hit me with his helix rockets, and Im done. Zen can discord and a single headshot will reduce me to almost nothin - so soloing two of them to keep them from backing up their point is some very solid work, thank you very much.

1:09 - 1:15 : One of my lamest PotGs ever! But sticking a Hog never ceases to be a pleasure.

1:15 - 1:20 : This is The Mercy Who Wouldnt Die I was talking about on the podcast last week. After multiple failed attempts, my team has disposed of most of the reds, and only Mei and Mercy remain on the point - but Im alone too. I blink in to finally deal with Mercy, and the Mei freezes me as I drop the bomb on Mercy. As Mercy flies through me and Meis freeze kicks in, Im sure Im about to die and well lose the point. If the Mei is close enough to freeze me, shes probably so close that Ill still be in my pulse bombs blast radius before Mercy flies to her...

...the freeze kicks in, the bomb goes off, and takes Mercy and Mei with it. That is what a lucky Tracer looks like.

1:20 - 1:24 : A nice triple, mostly off the back of my D.Vas ult. Chasing down a fleeing Hog feels delicious.

1:24 - 1:47 : Play of the Game for The Mercy Who Wouldnt Die is this display on the point. I go for a dive on her - merely the latest in a series of pathetic and failed attempts - but this time my Sombra ults at the perfect moment for me to capitalize on it. With none of her teams abilities to intercept me or protect her, I take the Mercy without much difficulty. Our Genji finishes off Rein, McCree dives for a health pack but gets picked before he can nail it, and the Tracer who had been countering me every time I tried to get close to Mercy retreats off the point just in time to run right into me.

And the PotG cut off before I got the Mei, but I got the Mei! And then we lost the point and lost the match anyway!

1:47 - 2:01 : I do my best to harry the reds defensive line, and successfully get their nano-boosted Rein to ignore my team, turn around and ferry my pulse bomb down to his Bastion! And then he tries to charge me, misses (blink counters charge), and my team finishes off what the pulse bomb started. Very nice.

2:01 - 2:20 : Pulse bombing the hog is, yknow, standard procedure - but whacking a Sombra out of stealth before wrecking her? Thats a sweet plum.

2:20 - 2:23 : The very humble PotG from the Gibraltar Match Highlights.

2:23 - 2:38 : A solid teamfight on Lijiang. Why do I feel like Im the only one who ever does for the damn healer?

2:38 - 2:41 : I turn a corner and find myself face-to-face with Ana. She fires her sleep dart right over my left ear, and I fire a pulse bomb into her face. I win.

2:41 - 2:46 : Much as I enjoyed beating the crap out of the enemy Roadhog this match, for my money, the single coolest moment is using rewind to get around the enemy McCree. It wouldve been ideal to finish him with a single clip, but nailing the shots after my blink really made it perfect. Course then I screw up and the Junkrat kills me, but it was still a gorgeous move. Specially with the harmony orb on him.

2:46 - 2:59 : I did enjoy beating up the Roadhog, though.

2:59 - 3:16 : A really nice PotG after a dominant match on Ilios. We had a Lucio. I heart Lucio. The McCree mustve been so burnt. He saw me kill his Soldier, he came for me on the other side to take me out, and he winds up in the PotG.

3:16 - 3:19 : Youre always worth my pulse bomb, Bastion.

3:19 - 3:22 : Ha!

3:22 - 3:25 : I messaged the Widow from the Shop Around vid, with a link to it. I was worried shes feel burnt by it, but...

Eyyy. And this takedown, I believe, is the best of the bunch.

3:29 - 3:41 : This Rein screwed up. When I tossed my pulse bomb, it hit his shield. If hed just kept it up, he and Lucio would be fine. He drops it, for a moment - and the bomb detaches and latches on to the nearest thing - him. Then, he brings the shield back up - but now the pulse bomb is on the other side of it - and it blasts him and Lucio.

On a personal note, I think this one is pretty darned good. Didnt get a single heart on the PA forums, though... I think I flooded the heart market with the Match Highlight vids... or maybe people just hate the song? I love this song.

ChrUbuntu One Script to Rule Them All!

Update: If you want to run ChrUbuntu on a Chromebook Pixel or one of the new Haswell-based Chromebooks like the HP Chromebook 14 or Acer C720, please take a look at the newer script that offers a better way to dual boot.

Update: Im aware that the script isnt working on Cr-48s, Samsung Series 5 and Acer C700 first gen Chromebooks but no longer have any of those to do testing with. For now, use the older 12.04 script on those models and upgrade to 13.10 if you want using the normal Ubuntu upgrade instructions.

Im excited to announce a major update to the ChrUbuntu script. This new version offers:

A single script that works on ALL Chrome devices including the ARM-based Samsung Chromebook.

A single script that can install any Ubuntu version: 13.10, 12.04.3 LTS, even the latest daily dev image. (Note: ARM Chromebook is currently limited to 12.04.3 as newer versions are broken on ARM)

A single script that can install Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu or many other desktop variants.

A fully up-to-date ChrUbuntu install on boot. No more downloading hundreds of megabytes in updates after first boot.

To make all of this possible, Ive rewritten the ChrUbuntu script to pull packages directly from official ubuntu.com sources rather than utilizing my own pre-configured, static image of an Ubuntu installation.

Ready to get started with the latest, greatest ChrUbuntu? Here are the instructions:

To get started, make sure your Chromebook is in developer mode and has a developer BIOS installed. See Googles instructions for your model. Older Samsung and Acer owners should pay special attention to the Developer BIOS instructions.

Start with your Chrome device turned off. Turn it on but do not login. Make sure you have a WiFi or Ethernet connection configured at this point. 3G/4G is not recommended. Press CTRL+ALT+=> (=> is the forward arrow where the F2 key would be on a PC). Do not use the normal CTRL+ALT+T method to get a shell. Use the CTRL+ALT+=> method while no one is logged in.

As the chronos user and without having changed directories or run other commands, run:

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/s9ryd; sudo bash s9ryd

Make sure you have the command exactly right. The -O and -L after curl are both capital letters. s9ryd is all lowercase letters and numbers and would sound like "ess nine are why dee" if you said it out loud. If you get a "not found" error, make sure you have Internet connectivity and youre typing the command correctly.

Youll be prompted with some information about your Chromebook. You may need to run an additional command to install a developer BIOS on your Chromebook. Press Enter to continue.

The Chrome OS stateful partition where your data and settings are stored is just short of 11gb by default (except for the Acer C7 where it is much larger), the script shrinks the stateful partition to make room for ChrUbuntu. You can choose to give ChrUbuntu from 5gb up to 10gb in 1gb increments (Note: If youve installed a larger SSD in your Chrome device, your max number and recommended max will be larger). I recommend not going higher than 9 as 10 leaves Chrome OS with very little free space (less than 1gb).

Once youve entered a number, your hard drive will be repartitioned. After awhile it will reboot and re-initialize the stateful partition. This process takes 2-15 minutes and then the Chromebook reboots again and shows you the Welcome screen you got when you first turned on your Chromebook out of the cardboard box.

Go through the Chrome OS setup process again until you get to the Google login page. Youll need to have a WiFi or Ethernet connection again at this point. Now follow steps 2 through 4 again. This time the script will see that youve already made room for Ubuntu and start downloading ChrUbuntu.

Pro Tip: Heres where you can install other versions of Ubuntu! Just specify the preferred Ubuntu flavor and version at the end of the command:

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/s9ryd; sudo bash s9ryd [flavor] [version] [target-disk]

For example:

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/s9ryd; sudo bash s9ryd xubuntu-desktop lts

this will install Xubuntu and the latest LTS release (12.04.3 as of writing) rather than a 13.10 Unity desktop. Some possible flavor alternatives to Unity are:

default (ubuntu-desktop on x86, xubuntu-desktop on arm)
kubuntu-desktop
lubuntu-desktop
xubuntu-desktop
edubuntu-desktop
ubuntu-standard (no GUI installed)

some possible versions are:

lts -- latest LTS Ubuntu release, 12.04.3 as of this writing
latest -- latest official release, currently 13.10
dev -- unstable development Ubuntu release, experts only! If this breaks, dont be surprised
12.10 -- Ubuntu 12.10 release

[target-disk] is the last argument (specify "default" and "latest" for the first two arguments if you just want to install the defaults to an external drive). An example installation to SD Card might be:

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/s9ryd; sudo bash s9ryd default latest /dev/mmcblk1

During the installation (within the first 5-15 minutes). Youll see a few prompts to select your encoding, locale and language. For most people, the defaults should be fine, just press Enter but change them if youd like.

After all of the Ubuntu files have been downloaded, installed and configured, the script will make a few more updates and then prompt you to reboot.

Youll see ChrUbuntu start up! The username is "user" and the password is "user".

Right now, youre in ChrUbuntu but if you reboot, youll be back in Chrome OS. This is a safety feature, if ChrUbuntu wont boot, you want to be able to get back into Chrome OS to fix it. To make ChrUbuntu the default, run:

sudo cgpt add -i 6 -P 5 -S 1 /dev/sda

on the ARM Chromebook, replace /dev/sda with /dev/mmcblk0. The password is "user". It should be possible to run this from ChrUbuntu or Chrome OS.

To make Chrome OS the default again, either turn off Developer Mode, or run:

sudo cgpt add -i 6 -P 0 -S 1 /dev/sda

If you are planning to do this certification you need to know hadoop in depth and have hands-on experience too.

I started Hadoop career from my MCA (2010 - 2013) Final Year Major Project and it paved me to my current Job. Around 6 months after joining I planned to write Cloudera Certification Exam. Christmas My Place or Yours

This is a short article about Christmas.

Well actually about who goes where at Christmas.

Aside
Although Christmas is of course a religious festival centered around Christianity, most people in the UK and our current home of Switzerland celebrate Christmas regardless of religion. The Celebration takes the form of actions which have nothing to do with Religion:

- Winding down at work
- Planning to spend Christmas with Family and/ or close Friends
- Eating and drinking more than normal
- Being more cheerful and positive than usual
- Buying Presents for yourself and others

But Who Goes Where?
What Id like you to think about is who goes where at Christmas.

In the Following, You refers to your family unit as a collection. For example for us it is Marcus and Agata.

You live at home with your Parents
You may be a young person who has not yet left home. If you are a teenager then its usually a minimum contribution Christmas where after Christmas lunch you can at the first opportunity get back to your school friends via the Internet. If you are over 30 then Christmas is a time when you wonder why you are still in this position and not in your own home.

You Go back home to your Parents
As a young person you may have financial ties (notably bank of mum and dad) and emotional ties to your parents. You may feel it is your duty to go home for Christmas even though its going to be awkward.

The situation complicates immeasurably if you have a Partner in that if they come home, will you be allowed to sleep together!

You go back home to one Parent
Your parents may have split. In this case you may still feel an obligation, but choosing one Parent over the other can lead to alienation. Some therefore choose to see both parents over the period and even swap Christmas Day and New Years between split parents over subsequent years. A horrible balancing act.

You stay at Home
You are quite happy to stay at home, because home alone with each other, your family is the best combination. Your parents and relatives can come over if they wish.

You go On Holiday
In order to avoid Parental squabbles you go as far away on a Holiday so there is no opportunity to spend it with Parents.

Your Parents comes to You
This is where you actually have mindful parents who realise that you have taken over centre stage for family. These are wonderful parents, often retired, and hence have more time come to you. It might be a little awkward but the message is clear: Our family and our rules! But please come and you will be welcome.

The Trump Cards

Grandparents
Grandparents unlike parents are acknowledged to have immobility as a given. So if your family as a whole wants to include them it can be done but might involve ferrying them to your house or if they are very wealthy going back to their large house in the country. This is the home you will possibly inherit, so depending on your financial condition you may need to nice even if it does not come naturally.

The New Baby
As a trump card this means that you cant travel anywhere and everybody has to come to you and say what a wonderful beautiful and intelligent (etcetera) baby you have.

Third World - First World
Due to poor transport links and often pricing inequality (i.e. First world travelers get cheaper prices than 3rd world) if you live in the First world you might be expected to travel to the 3rd world. You will have at best a socially rich Christmas but perhaps in very basic conditions that constantly remind you why you are living in the First world.

The Illness
If your parents are ill / frail then you have to make the effort to visit them. Now although this could have been done at any time of the year, when both parties could have better planned for it, at Christmas there is a sort of override.

Overall
If you as a family unit are no longer financially or emotionally dependent on your parents then in the longer term you are invited to make the choice of what is best for your family unit, not what you are coerced into.

You only get one life to enjoy on this planet so live it legally and with conviction to make your immediate family unit first your number 1.
