In simple terms, I would like to explain you is : Accessing, editing, providing & storing all your data and applications for you or your customers from any place in the world.
Only the minimum requirement that the cloud ask for is � The Internet with a computer.

Now suddenly the next question rises in your mind is :
What are the services vendors provide in the cloud ?

Basically, there are three main services that are provided by vendors in the cloud :

1. IaaS : This is the service that resides in the most bottom layer of all the other services.
The service is called � Infrastructure As A Service �.
The name itself suggests that in this service, the vendor provides the whole
infrastructure (Storage, networking & access) to you for your usage or to upload to web
for your customers. They maintain all the hectic hardware and you just need to pay them
the rent according to your usage.

2. PaaS : Coming exactly above this IaaS is the PaaS also known as the � Platform As A Service.
PaaS is specifically for Developers. What cloud computing companies like Google do
is, they provide the platform of different languages to you like java,Python etc. So that

Chomping on BlueTooth

I had a difficult task recently: try to determine who was the likely operator of a netbook. The netbook was used to download and store ATM card numbers that had been illicitly collected with a skimmer. The operating system was Windows XP, and the sole user account was a pseudonym that I could not link to anyone in particular.

I tried a few obvious tactics: I looked for installed software (Program Files and Windows Registry), hoping to get registration names and/or email addresses for registered applications. Nothing. In fact, it appeared little extra software had been installed on the system except for the software and drivers to communicate with the skimmer.

I decided to boot the image in a VM to get a lay of the land. In dead disk analysis, its quite easy to see what files are on the desktop, for example, but not nearly so easy to see how objects are arranged, the wallpaper, running applications, etc. Sure, you can discover these things, but you have to look several locations and then synthesize the information... sometimes a picture is just plain better. I used xmount, VirtualBox, and opengates, a technique Ive previously detailed.

I immediately noted something after the system booted: the BlueTooth (BT) service was running. I have never seen BT running by default in a Windows system, but that doesnt mean it wasnt configured to run on boot by the netbooks manufacturer. But still, I was intrigued. The BT application windows did not show a history of connected devices, but I wondered if such a history was available. Maybe the paired device might lead me to the suspect?

Im in the habit of imaging devices with forensics-oriented Linux boot discs such as CAINE, DEFT, or those of my own creation. The benefits can be quite substantial, including the ability to easily collect hardware information. I use lshw for this purpose, but in this case, I saw no BT hardware listed in the report, just ethernet and wifi. Did this netbook support BT, or was an external adapter used? In this case, I no longer have the hardware in front of me to inspect, but it doesnt appear to have a built-in adapter.

However, I am able to detect third-party bluetooth software with a quick registry search in the mounted disk image:

The tool I used, reglookup, is an efficient and useful command line registry parser. The -i option causes subkeys to inherit the timestamp of the parent key. The date may not reflect the modification date of the specific key since the parent key modified date is updated whenever a subkey is modified.

Inspecting The Widcomm (Broadcom) software keys, I found a "Devices" subkey that organized remote devices by their MAC addresses:

Each "device" subkey, among other things, contained a name key. This was the text name of the device, and one of the devices stood out:

The data in the Name key is in a python bytes format, which displays ASCII text where possible and otherwise the hex in the form x00. It can be converted in python3 rather simply with:

I redacted the Name key data for this article, but from it I learned the name of the MacBook Air with which the netbook had been paired. The name of the MacBook was the name of a suspect in the case. Proof positive that the named suspect was the operator of the netbook? No, certainly not. But helpful in light of the totality of the circumstances, to be sure.

Collaboration for Revit Installation and Setup Made Easy!

The fact that Im posting about it means that it probably isnt really that easy, right? There are a few challenging pieces of the puzzle that all need to come together to get C4R or Collaboration for Revit working on a real project. I just went through this process with a mechanical firm so it is all pretty fresh in my mind.

Firstly, note that A360 Team has been rebranded as BIM 360 Team and will be migrated, more details at this post.

Secondly, Autodesk really wants your whole team (like everyone, every consultant, every Revit link) on Collaboration for Revit. However, out in the real world it is just happening bit-by-bit, and in the meantime some hacks and workarounds can make the process a little bit easier.

A Quick Overview
Ok, so Collaboration for Revit runs on on top of BIM 360 Team. What this means is that you need to have an active BIM 360 Team license if you wish to run projects. Then, you need a Collaboration for Revit license for each Revit user who will be connecting to that BIM 360 Team site. You still with me? This also means that persons outside of your firm may connect to your projects, provided they have their own Collaboration for Revit entitlement applied to their Autodesk account.

Once you have the BIM 360 Team license, and the Collaboration for Revit licenses, you then need to "Assign" the Collaboration for Revit licenses out to the users (using their Autodesk login details).

Finally, you need to actually do some stuff, like:

make a BIM 360 Team project,

Its a lot to take in, so you can see that the blog title is actually a half-joke :) However, we were able to get all this up and running in about 4 hours for one firm, so you can too. Hopefully.

Basically all of the steps involved in getting the licensing setup, inviting users, installing the addin, and initiating models onto Collaboration for Revit are in the notebook linked above. I will continue to update and add to this over time.
